Re: [EZLINK] How to India citizens apply for jobs in Singapore

Hi Murugesan,

On one hand, I do agree with you that top students from premier institutes
do get packages in range of 6-10L per annum, which can translate upto in
hand salary of 50k per annum.

On the other hand, how many such freshers are there? As far as I have seen,
a majority of fresh graduates still start with salary of 2.5-3L per annum.

Can you please help me provide some information on

1. How many fresh IT people are recruited in India every year?
2. What is the average distribution of salary packages for IT freshers?
3. How many of these freshers are trained and sent for overseas assignments?
4. How much is the overall compensation for these overseas assignments
compared to local people?

Notice that most of high paying jobs are in banking sector, and require you
to work at odd hours. (thats the reason they are high paying). If you are
single person though, it might not be a big issue. But after marriage and/or
kids, you may want to look towards more sedantary lifestyle.

Not many non-Indian IT professionals are willing are work at non-standard
office timings. And its not all Singapore, the same holds true for UK, US
and other countries. Secondly, it is easier to dismiss foreign staff in case
of non-performance as opposed to local residents.

And yes, I do agree that taxes in Singapore are lower, but that does not
mean that the monthly expenses are any lower.

Infact, as a benchmark, if you need around 20k per month in India as
expenses, you would around 2.5k per month in Singapore. For a married couple
to live a decent lifestyle, you can expect to spend around 4k per month
(without a vehicle ofcourse).

But then, it all depends, what you would consider as a decent lifestyle.
Some couples even stay in a filthy one room JTC appartment for $500, or in a
shared accomodation for even lesser. While others prefer decent condo,
which can cost upto 1400 per month. The other thing (already mentioned) to
notice is the working hours.

Also, please notice that while working in India, your PF is also
accumulated, but while working in Singapore, you have to put aside your
savings for PF. (unless ofcourse you become PR).

I am not discouraging anyone from coming to Singapore. My point is simple :

1. Negotiate your salary well, before coming to Singapore.
2. Do not multiply your salary by 30.
3. Calculate your expenses according to your lifestyle.

Thanks for your comments again.
