Engineer, IT Applications
Job Role:
The key mission of the IT Applications Engineer is to reduce complexity, automate, secure and
support the organization's processes using Information Technology.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Application Development
a) Analyze and gathering requirements
b) Designing multi-tier web applications
c) Developing code with good convention and commenting
d) Keeping track of applications using a concurrent versioning software, such as CVS
e) Providing application start/stop and monitoring scripts
f) Providing application design and user documentation
g) Providing the web application in a package form such as tar.gz or rpm
2. Database Development
a) Designing re-usable databases for web applications
b) Installation and setup initial database
c) Providing database initialization scripts
d) Providing database backup and restore scripts
e) Providing database design documentation
3. Maintenance
a) Solving problems found in applications deployed
b) Devise, develop and provide application patch packages
c) Keeping updated application code in CVS
d) Documenting updated code
Job Requirements:
1. Working experience
a) At least 2 years of working experience in Unix/Linux/Windows platforms
b) At least 2 years of experience in web application development for enterprises
2. Working knowledge
a) OpenLDAP, Samba, NFS, openSSH and shell scripts
b) Solaris and Linux as a web server platform
c) Strong networking and operating system concepts
d) Web application programming languages: Java (Applets), JSP, EJB, PHP, Javascript,
HTML, SQL
e) Practical knowledge of Eclipse, MySQL, Jboss, Tomcat, Apache, Internet Explorer and
Mozilla Firefox
3. Qualifications
a) Minimum diploma in computer science, computer studies, information technology or
related disciplines
4. Personality
a) Resourceful and self-driven individual with sense of urgency and commitment
b) Willing to learn and always striving to improve
c) Ability to work independently and as a team
d) Good communication skills, both written and spoken
e) Good initiative and analytical skills
Candidates who have the following certifications and/or knowledge would be an advantage:-
a) Technical certifications such as certified Java Web component developer or certified
Java programmer would be preferred
b) Working knowledge of Macromedia Flash (CGI post)
