Any claim by these two providers is related to the local connectivity. That
means, if you take Starhub's MaxOnline 6500 plan, it gives you a bandwidth
of 6.5 MB (upload around 450 KBPS and the rest for download) to connect to
Starhub servers. This is true if you test the connectivity with Starhub
servers. But we are not interested to get connected to our ISP servers. Most
of the content we surf is coming from servers located in US, thus, if you
test the speed with any US server, it fares very bad because of the very low
bandwidth our providers have.
Recently IDA has directed these companies to improve their connectivity to
US and urged the content providers to host some of their servers in
Singapore for better surfing speeds.
So no matter if it is a fat green pipe or dedicated connection, we as a
consumer, still suffer from poor surfing speeds.
