Position Summary:
As a member of software team in Singapore you will work closely with the Database Administrator in the US providing support and maintenance of the database in Singapore. You will also monitor daily alerts and fix potential problems. Other responsibilities include developing scripts and tools in conjunction with the software engineering team. You will provide guidance on integrated information systems supporting the information pipeline. Maintenance and customization of systems includes batch rendering processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides day-to-day database administration support for the high-availability Oracle database instances, including backups, performance tuning, developer support and end-user data manipulation. This position works closely with the Oracle DBA based in California to be able to perform tuning on development and production databases.
Implements Oracle database hardware and software upgrades.
With the Oracle DBA, performs database backup/recovery/tuning operations.
Develops production software scripts and tools as needed.
Develops and publishes tools and documentation to assist developers and end-users of database systems.
Provides 24/7 backup (DBA) on-call support of the production database.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Computer Science degree/ Info Systems Diploma with 1-2 year experience working with database administration and/or database development.
Oracle certification required
Strong understanding of core Oracle database functionality and administration
Understanding of scripting languages such as Perl, SQL*Net and Python would be a definite plus.
Familiarity with Linux is required
Working knowledge of Solaris server and Linux/Windows platforms preferred.
Basic to intermediate understanding of data presentation and manipulation methods, including Web applications via Java Servlets, PL/SQL, Perl (DBI/DBD), and Python.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in conjunction with HQ in the USA.
Must be attentive to details and aware of the effect that database performance has on the entire facility.
Good communication skills and the ability to work and contribute in a team environment.
