Main Job Function
The candidate will be managing run the bank fixes and minor works
(small projects) as part of the Middle Office IT Support team.
Depending on scale of the small projects, there may be occasions
when there will be staff reporting to him. The candidate will also
be expected to serve as the deputy for the head of the Middle Office
IT support team and thus needs to be familiar with day to day
support procedures. The candidate will also be expected to run the
support team in the absence of the team manager
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Manage small projects by liaising with the business, gathering
business requirements, doing the analysis, etc. There may be a
requirement to assist with user acceptance testing and potentially
some minor development work.
Some minor works will be one man projects, so the candidate has to
be comfortable performing the role of project manager, analyst and
occasionally developer
Depending on scale of the small projects, there may also be
occasions when there will be staff reporting to him.
There may also be occasions when the candidate will be asked to
coordinate workstreams across the team to fulfil an objective (i.e.
coordinate DR testing)
Help run the team, including day-to-day support activities in the
absence of the team manager
The candidate will be required to interact with business users and
IT groups across the region and globally to ensure issues are
resolved in a timely manner.
Application areas in the team:
• PCG (Global Product Control. Global MIS reporting, trader P&L
reporting by product)
• TDB (in-house Data warehouse. Central repository for the banks
Trade and Position data.)
• Reg (Global regulator reporting. Calculation of Capital adequacy
reporting, Counterparty Risk, Position (instrument) risk, WRAs
(Principally FSA in London))
Each area has a number of distinct applications running on a wide
variety of technologies and platforms
Qualifications/Education Required
Engineering and/or science degree or equivalent industrial
experience
Qualifications/Education Preferred
Degree in computing sciences or information systems.
Experience Required
5+ years relevant IT experience
Experience managing small projects
Some support experience
Some development experience
User support experience
Experience Preferred
Exprience leading a small team
Knowledge of banking systems and projects
Experience in investment banking environment
Skills / Aptitude Required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Very strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong SQL data querying skills
Strong knowledge and use of relational databases MSSQL 2000 and/or
Oracle PL/SQL
Exposure to programming languages such as VB/VBA and MS Access
Financial product knowledge
Ability to learn quickly
Ability to multitask, high-motivation, self-starter attitude.
Ability to work in a virtual team, across boundaries (Occasional
travel to London or other Barclays offices may be required)
Skills / Aptitude Preferred
Ability to resolve issues in a high-pressure environment
Languages
English (mandatory). Ability to speak mandarin and/or other chinese
dialects is a bonus (not mandatory)
