Re: [EZLINK] Need recipe to prepare Brocolli

Hi,

I dont know the Chinese/Malay recipe but I can suggest a very tasty one very simple to make.
You can even replace Brocolli with Cauliflower.

Pepper roasted Brocolli/Cauliflower
----------------------------------------------------
Take a brocolli/cauliflower of medium size (may be some 1/2 KG or 3/4 KG).
Cut into small pieces leaving away the thick stem.
Take some 1 litre of water and boil it.
Add about 3 spoons of salt, mix it.
Put the brocolli/cauliflower in the boiling water such that they totally submerge.
Leave it for 2 - 3 mins.
Drain off the water and keep the brocolli seperate. (Now brocolli/cauliflower is very lightly salted)

Take a fry pan and add some 3 - 4 spoons of cooking oil and heat it.
Add mustard, urud dal, curry leaves, cumin seeds, asafoetida etc.
Add 2 or 3 nicely sliced green chillies or chilli padi if you perfer hot and spicy dishes.
Wait till the mustard 'pat.. pats..'

Then add the brocolli, and let it fry well.
(Keep rolling and stirring it every 2 min, so that all the pieces are well fried. If it is cauliflower you can see if it turns to very light brown).
Leave it to fry for 10 - 12 mins.

Then add about 2 - 3 spoons of pepper powder.
1-2 spoon of Salt (as per your taste but dont add too much, you can add it later if you need)
2-3 spoons of ghee. (*lesser if you are scared - adding ghee will make it yummyyyyy.....!!!! You will be addicted to the taste)
Mix them well and let it fry for 5 - 6 mins.

Cool and serve. It is a simple but very tasty dish I used to enjoy when stayed as a bachelor.
If you dont fry the brocolli well it may give some greeny/leafy flavour which some may not like.
(Dont be specific on the mins I mentioned. It may depend on how strong the flame is.)

Do mail me your comments.

Rgds,
Ram
