Billing is one of the most important processes supported by BSCS. Billing collects and generates usage, recurring and non-recurring charges for a defined period, calculates promotions such as discounts, free units, and taxes. Mainly, these parameter are needed to generate billing documents (customer bills, sum sheets, itemized bills).

Description:
This is a handshaking/mediation device for telecom switch and billing system. It collects data from switch, does format conversion, filtering and merging. It has provisioning facility. It's a distributed architecture based product. It provides both web based as well as stand alone user interface.
CFulcrum - the convergent (generic) mediation device meant for GSM, GPRS, CDMA, Landline and IP technologies. This generic software has the flexibility to interact with multi vendor Network Elements (NEs). It has the capability for Online Usage Data Record transfer from NEs and also the Online Service Provisioning of the subscribers at the NE. It also has easy interface with the OSS. Alarm generation with severity levels (GUI based), performance monitoring, health checking, GUI based configuration management, and platform independence are the major strengths of CFulcrum. It supports multiple protocols e.g., MTP over X.25, FTP over TCP/IP, FTAM over X.25.

FULCRUM - SIEMENS Mediation System
The Mediation software is developed with an open architecture to make it compatible with the different Network elements. Apart form the features of Call Processing for prepaid CDRs, Service provisioning and online data collection, detailed analysis of the CDR in this system has enabled an extensive reporting feature. CDRs are converted from ASN.1 format to ASCII to pass it on to OSS. During conversion a filtration is also done to seperate prepaid and postpaid CDRs. Another distinct feature of this software is its distributed feature i.e., the handling of multiple switches (9 switches) by Mediation Software. Billing Application sends requests for profile checks of subscribers of mobile Phones registered with them. This request is then forwarded to the Network Elements for profile details at the switch end. The request stream utilises X.25 to communicate between this application and Network Element. The responses are then parsed and put into a predefined ASCII format
and sent back to OSS. This project ensured the integrity of subscriber information at the two entities viz. Network Elements and OSS. This application also keeps track of the requests sent by the prepaid and post-paid billing server.

SCRUTINY Software:
This software takes the raw cdr files as its input. It validates for cdr types and MSISDN / landline numbers and gives a descriptive report on the selected cdr fields. These fields are configurable. It is mostly required to trap fraud and also it is very useful for the police verifications come to the Telco operators. Also if required it can be used to tally the calls shown in the itemised bill produced by OSS.
